The Journey to The Junction, Cambridge

July 7, 2008

So Saturday arrived and time rolled by as I prepared to drive to Cambridge for Reggae for the People 2008. Midday came and went and we decided to leave it until about 4pm to make the two hour journey up through three counties. So 4pm came and went and the evening was rapidly approaching when we decided we really should make a move.

With exactly two hours to reach our destination we set off. Ten minutes into the journey and I fancied a coffee, so pulling into Farthing Corner services we went to grab a quick latté. Standing at the counter of Burger King was none other than the cockney musical legends Chas and Dave. Ten minutes, two lattés and a slightly embarrassing approach later and I had the perfect souvenir for this fantastic start to the evening.

With approximately an hour and a half to get there, we headed to the notoriously busy Dartford Crossing in the hope of a minor miracle. Hallelujah! The traffic was almost non-existent and despite much rumour and gossip the price of the toll had remained fixed at a very reasonable £1, rather than the extortionate £1.50 that I had heard bandied around locker rooms and dinner halls across the country.

We entered Essex and my knowledge of the roads became weaker as I saw the M2 become the M25, then M11 and finally the A1309. I am out of my depth.

It is actually pretty easy to find The Junction at Cambridge, especially with the excellent directions that the venue provided with the tickets. We were there before we even realised and parked up and ready to skank by about 7.05pm. No problems.
